Watches of Wimbledon

This year’s Wimbledon games is long anticipated after its sad cancellation last year. We have all missed seeing those fresh green turfed courts, iconic tennis whites, the pop of the ball against the wired rackets, all whilst eating some plump strawberries with fresh double cream. However, for those more intricate observers out there, there is something even more anticipated; the impressive premier of those watches worn throughout the games. Tennis players are known for their cleanly dressed, preppy, athletic and glamourous look, with this backed up by their choice of wristwatches. As we anticipate which watches will be showcased at this years games, lets take a look back at some impressive past watches of Wimbledon - by both players and celebrity onlookers alike.

Lets start with the most impressive of quick changes – that of the 2019 final with Novak Djokovic against Roger Federer. The two players swiftly adorned their endorsed watches after the match was over, and wore them with utter pride. Djokovic wore a limited edition Seiko Astron GPS while accepting the first place trophy cup, whilst Federer wore a rose gold Day Date Rolex (making a change to his usual gold and steel Datejust II Rolex).





Rolex has been the Official Timekeeper of The Wimbledon Championships since 1978, and endorses a plethora of tennis stars including that of Federer who has been a long time devoted testimonial of the brand. Other tennis stars under Rolex’s endorsement extends to, but is not limited to, that of Belinda Bencic, Grigor Dimitrov, Lucas Pouille, and Kyle Edmund.

At the final weekend of games, David Beckham appeared in the stadium in an impeccable suit whilst adorning a Tudor Black Bay Chrono. Their Royal Highness’ the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also joined in on the watch party with their long serving and non-endorsed watches - Kate sported the Ballon Blue de Cartier and William the Omega Seamaster 300 Quartz.



Rafael Nadal goes against the grain and also safety recommendations at the games, by wearing his watch during matches as opposed to the usual before and after. A long time Richard Mille brand ambassador, Nadal has been seen wearing his RM 27-03 Tourbillon watch during the games which usually retails for a healthy $725,000.



The female contestants give the male players a run for their money by adorning impressive and beautiful watches throughout the games. One to name is that of the iconic Serena Williams, who is a brand ambassador for Audemars Piguet. She was spotted wearing a particular favourite of hers during the games, that of the Royal Oak Offshore in 18K rose gold with diamonds.
